The flower bed on Hartsbourne Crescent has had been filled some years ago with berberis but these had become very neglected and in addition there was a lot of thistles which took at long, long time to eradicate. Our first job was to plant a focus tree and this was kindly provided by Kevin Wilson from the Community Enhancement Forum and expertly chosen by the Council Arborist, Peter Sherry. He chose a wild pear, known for its lovely blossom in Spring and stunning winter foliage.
In addition we have commissioned a mosaic depicting the Ironstone mining that went on in the village in the early 20th century and on which the village of New Marske was founded. The mosaic is finished and is at present with the Blacksmith, James Godbold in Egton who will frame and place it in the bed.
The bed is an ongoing project but it is wonderful to see the local residents come on board and help keep the grass and beds tidy. Some of the berberis is being replaced by more colourful shrubs and plants.
This year has been very challenging with such dry weather and some of the new shrubs have struggled to survive.
If you are interested in helping with this well worth project to make our village as beautiful as it can be. Please join us on Sunday at 10am at Kilbridge Close unless its raining or ring me on

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HELP AND BE COMMIT ED EACH SUNDAY ANY HELP YOU COULD GIVE US WOULD BE APPRECIATED BY THE WHOLE VILLAGE. EVEN A BIT OF WATER ON THE NEW SHRUBS WILL BE WELCOME AND IMPROVE THE VILLAGE
we have decided to plant up pink polyanthus this autumn and these have already been ordered from our supplier, Maynards Nursery, Great Broughton.
We will no longer be asking for any sponsorship from the Parish Council due to the nastiness of one of the local Parish Councillors in complaining about the money we get. Any of the groups I run will ask for no more funding. This funding comes from your Community Charge and is also claimed by Marske and Saltburn in Bloom groups
